

Our Journey
Week 1: Interview Mayhem
Week one was packed with interviews, in our classes. Each student had the opportunity to interview their classmates in their class. Based on what we learned from these interviews and our experiences working together throughout the year, we formed groups of 3 to 4 students. Once in our groups, we selected our roles and prepared to collaborate with teams from other classes.
Week 2: The Great Grouping
After forming groups in our classes, we met as a larger team and began conducting group interviews. Once those were done, we finalized our teams and listened to the game design class’s ideas. Each team picked two games to prototype in hopes of being chosen as collaborators. Our team chose Gargoyle Galen and Retro Zombies, and we had one week to build cardboard prototypes and prepare our pitch.
Week 3: Presentation Nation
In week four, the ITS, Cybersecurity, Composites, and Machining teams came together to create presentations for the games we wanted to collaborate on. Once our presentations were complete, we shared them with the Game Design team. Game Design then met to review the ideas and decide which projects they wanted to bring to life. They chose the teams they wanted to connect and work with.Now, the real journey begins—our groups are formed, and we’re ready to start building our arcade.

PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) is a nationally recognized gaming convention that showcases video games, tabletop games, and gaming culture, giving developers and creators a platform to present their work and connect with a wide audience.

Week 4: Gears start spinning
Week 5: Steady rolling
Composites and Machining have finished building the housing for our system. Game Design has begun presenting to administration to advocate for attending PAX, a nationally recognized gaming convention. Meanwhile, ITS is wrapping up the build for the computer system.
Week 6: that's a rap
After forming groups in our individual classes, we met as a larger group, with each team visiting the others' classes. We began conducting group interviews instead of one-on-one interviews. Once the interviews were complete, we finalized our teams and listened to the various game ideas being developed by the game design class. Each team then selected two games they wanted to create prototypes for, in an effort to convince the game design groups to choose them as collaborators. The two games our team chose to prototype were Gargoyle Galen and Retro Zombies. We had one week to build cardboard prototypes and prepare our presentations.

It’s go time. Game Design has started building out their game, while ITS is currently building the computer that will run it. At the same time, ITS is working with Machining and Composites to create a sturdy and secure structure to house the system.
